The Great Britain 50th Anniversary Day took place in Sheffield on 6th October. Around 200 people attended and all six branches were represented. The day included a whole range of activities, including typical CISV songs and games, a "Who wants to be a CISVaire?" quiz, and a drama activity were each team created a short play about CISV 50 years in the future. In the Decades game participants moved from one decade to the next, from the 1950s to the present day, by completing tasks.

For more pictures from the day go to our new Gallery. If you have any pictures you would like to add to the gallery please scan them and send them to webmaster@gb.cisv.org.

Thanks to everyone who made the day a success - the NJBF (particularly Tom, Jon and Alex) for running all the activities, and Jennifer Watson, Martin Bell and Kathy Vincent for sorting out all the practical arrangements.

CISV 50th Anniversary Celebrations
(posted 23/08/01)

All over the world celebrations are already underway for CISV's 50th anniversary. This year's International Board Meeting has just finished in Cincinatti, the venue for the very first village, and it included a dedication evening to founder Doris Allen (who is also celebrating her 100th birthday this year) and the unveiling of a statue to commerate CISV and Doris's life. Several participants from the original village also attended the IBM and gave a very interesting talk to the board. An anniversary history book has been published with a page summarising the history of every CISV member nation.

CISV Great Britain will also be holding our own celebrations. On Saturday, October 6th, 10am - 6pm we will be hosting a 50th Anniversary Celebration Day for all CISV members, new and old. There will be a wide range of special activites for all ages and it will be a great chance to meet up with old CISV friends. It will be held in Sheffield and is being organised by members of National Council and the NJBF.

If you need more information there should be someone coordinating things for your branch; failing that contact either Jennifer Watson (North East) or Jon Howarth (NJR).

Leadership Training Workshop
(posted 20/04/01)

This year the leadership training workshop was held in Manchester on 23-24th March. It was well attended by all 6 branches and sessions were tailored to the needs of the group, covering delegation leaders, village staff, summer camp, and JCs. Some of the resources used on the day are available below. Many thanks from everyone who attended to Jen (NE) and Alex (Leeds) for organising the content, and John (Manchester) for arranging all the practicals.

National Fundraising Working Group
(posted 20/04/01)

At the Key Issues Workshop in February one of the discussion groups suggested that we should have a national fundraising working group. Suggested "terms of reference" were drawn up (thanks to Roger (Leeds)) and presented to the National Council at their March meeting. Council members agreed that this was a good idea and we are now looking for interested members to join this group. Ideally we should have at least one from each branch and hopefully they will have their first meeting in June (alongside the AGM). If you want to find out more you can download the terms of reference below.

Key Issues Workshop
(posted 13/02/01)

The Key Issues Workshop took place at the Peace Centre in Warrington on Saturday, 10th February. There were around 50 people and five out of the six branches were represented. The theme for the day was "Select, Recruit and Retain" and lots of ideas came out during the discussions. Judging from a quick glance at the evaluation forms, the day was considered a success and the format worth repeating in the future. You will be able to download the minutes from the workshop here as soon as they are ready.
